By: Козлова, Наталия НиколаевнаContributor(s): Рассадин, Сергей ВалентиновичMaterial type: ArticleArticleContent type: Текст Media type: электронный Other title: Designing the "City of Ladies" in the project of Christine de Pizan [Parallel title]Subject(s): Online resources: Click here to access online In: The article analyzes the specifics of the construction of the “social” in the project of the City of Ladies in the book of the same name by Christine de Pizan. The relevance of the research is determined by the pioneering contribution of the woman-thinker of the Renaissance in the discussions that unfold around the comprehension of the present and imaginary social structure. Analyzing the meaning, essence, nature and features of the construction of the “City of Ladies” in Christine de Pizan’s project, the authors identify and analyze epistemological grounds, logical justifications, arguments and historical evidence of the ability of women to be subjects of social life. The revision of the peripatetic and theological foundations of the medieval picture of the world by Christine de Pizan leads to the expansion of the concept “social” by including women as full members of society. The authors of the article propose to consider the City of Ladies as a special intelligible construction that discursively allows integrating women into the social order. The meaning of the project of the City of Ladies is to harmonize the social world by changing the masculine view of society on the nature of women. Addressing a broad socio-historical context through allegorical forms, Christine offers a conceptual reassessment of the social order. Christine creates the City as a special symbolic order by building a “female view” of the nature of the sexes, giving women the status of the subject of knowledge, activity, history. The description of the imaginary City for women allows Christine to speak on behalf of the collective subject – the female community. The inclusion of women as full participants in social life is realized by rethinking the value of men’s and women’s activities, giving importance to women’s activities related to the upbringing of children, as well as by increasing women’s access to education. The imaginary City allows us to expand the concept “social” by including a new social community – women.
