The basis for the sustainable and effective development of the country's economy and all its spheres is the country's banking system. The assessment of the banking system statistics plays an important role for the general understanding of the financial and economic situation and the establishment of patterns of functioning and development of the banking sector in the conditions of the economy of modern Russia. The article uses classical scientific methods and research techniques, which allowed us to see the current trends in the development of banking activities. To assess the statistics of the banking system, indicators were selected that more closely characterize the state of the banking sector. It was found that the Russian banking system continued to develop despite the economic downturn. This was due to the fact that the number of weak financially unstable banks was reduced, the growth of the money supply in circulation, the increase in the parameters of monetization of the economy, the concentration and centralization of bank capital and deposits of individuals.
