The article for the first time presents the corpus of translated texts associated with the Japanese theme, with the
image of Japan and the Japanese, as that were actively formed in Russia and Europe during the Russo-Japanese War.
In this article we revealed the peculiarity of regional comprehension constructed by Tomsk authors. This comprehension
includes the features of culture, politics, history of Japan considered as the Other in the context of local cultural
identity development in pre-revolutionary Siberia.
