N2  - This article emphasizes the main reasons for disappear of documents in days of the
Great Patriotic War. Special attention is paid to studying of the opinions of the Soviet
 and Russian historians dealing with this problem. The emphasis made on the
 fact that in Soviet period the actions of invaders were considered as the main reason
 for destruction of archives however since the period of the collapse of the USSR
 scientists began to allocate other reasons, such as wrong policy of local authorities,
 unreasoned evacuation and bad storage conditions of archives
