This paper is devoted to the issues of the study of the cultural phenomenon
of politeness. The modern classification is provided. Those models
considering politeness from a linguo-pragmatic perspective are emphasized.
Leech’s Principle of Politeness is thoroughly viewed and analyzed as a basic
theory for further sociolinguistic conceptualization of the phenomenon of politeness.
